Schedule a meeting for f2f on campus or remote via Zoom
This writing project asks you to build your growing understanding of work in DH by analyzing and reviewing a digital project in Digital Humanities. Your analysis will examine a project to identify its goals, its data, its tools, the methods used, its values, and its results. The end result of your review of a project is to evaluate the project as reflecting best practices in the field of DH. You will produce a webpage, a slideshow, and a short half-page report.
This project is best undertaken by a team of 3-5, although larger teams may be able to succeed and smaller teams are permitted. Due at start of week 12, presented in class.
You should consider working as a collaborative team on this project.
Steps for doing the work of Project 2
Before Invention
- First, meet with your team to identify projects of worth and select one to analyze. If it were me, I’d ask everyone to bring a candidate to a zoom meeting and then vote.
- Second, every team member should spend time becoming VERY familiar with the project. Click around.
Invention
- Go to invention document and name your team, identify the project, and identify the members & roles. Make a sub-folder in the Project 2 folder with your team name.
Post Invention, Pre-draft
- Team begins to analyze project. Use the project worksheet to build shared information about the project (create a copy and name it for your team. Move it to your shared folder!).
- WordPress Admin sets up the site and creates userids for each team member as admin users.
- Finalize the roles and assign duties. Lots of fair ways to do this, but be clear with responsibilities and set deadlines for each other, and hold each other accountable.
- Identify a coordinator and that coordinator should create a shared doc with roles, responsibilities, and deadlines. Share that in the team’s shared folder. 1st task for each member should be to create an appropriate stub for their assigned page (blank empty document) in WordPress (and for Report & Slideshow).
Drafting
- Each team member should have a page that they are responsible for drafting. Content heavy sections are sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9. Section 1 and 11 are quite simple and should be shared by all. Section 8 is the easiest (peer-reviewed article and abstract). Section 10 should be drafted after your analysis is fully complete.
- Draft 1 will provide feedback to sections 1-5, and draft 2 will give feedback to the entire draft.
- The WordPress admin should select an appropriate theme and install it. This will greatly impact the look and feel of the project site. The WordPress admin should set up a navigation menu. This will impact the way the project functions and is read. Identifying and analyzing the results from your selected project.
Team revisions
- In addition to feedback from me and your peers, you should establish a way to build feedback within the team. I suggest assigning each person a page to act as reviewer, for both content and style.
- Your team should also assign someone to be the overall style guide-r, to ensure that the project has a consistent look and feel from page to page.
Finishing Up
- Assign slideshow personnel and report writers. These will be graded separately. These personnel should arrange required feedback meetings for their work.
By submission deadline, your team will have produced a project that effectively communicates the team’s research on your selected project via: (a) a website with all of team’s analysis and research, as an array of pages; (b) a slideshow of at least 5 slides and no more than 10 slides, shared in our google drive folder; and (b) a ½ to 1-page written report that professionally summarizes the team’s analysis in a concise, coherent report;
