Getting Started with Weekly Research

Square

Need some help getting started on Weekly Research?  Don’t be discouraged. This page will get you going.

What Can I Share for Weekly Research?

Each week you are asked to research independently (i.e. not finding a precise thing in response to a question). You locate, identify, select, and describe the item as your weekly research.  In general, the thing you share should be one of the following item types:

  1. Peer reviewed scholarship about digital tools, methods, techniques for understanding/making/sharing human culture (this is probably from Google Scholar)
  2. Projects engaged in understanding/making/sharing human culture (this is probably from DH Awards, but also you may find a project in an article, etc)
  3. Tools/methods used to understand/make/share human culture
  4. Something else that you think *may* be relevant, but you may be wrong (reach out!)

What to write for Weekly Research?

Your job is to use writing to identify, describe and share the item you’ve selected. Full credit will be given if you have the following elements:

  1. Name
  2. URL linking to the item
  3. Description of item. 75 words is your target, but anywhere from 50-100 is acceptable.
  4. nothing else needed

Strategy: Using your Weekly Research for fun and profit

Although if you meet the above requirements and you’re on time, you can expect to receive full credit for the assignment, there’s more!  WIth our class’s pacing of smaller projects due every 2-3 weeks, you’re super encouraged to use the Weekly Research to tackle the work of the project.  So for the first Weekly Research Assignment that is due at the beginning of project 1, a good idea would be to make the project work = weekly research.  So the discipline, project, tool, and scholarship are all fair game.  Can’t get your act together in time?  No worries.  But double dipping is definitely encouraged.
