Project 5: Propose a Research Project

Square

Your end of term project this semester is a Proposal for a Project, where you write a proposal for a project that, in your opinion, should be undertaken. The project must not currently exist; the documents you submit as Project 5 is your team’s persuasive case for green-lighting the project. The best projects will be tied to this here now: here, tied locally to WCU, the campus, and/or the region; now, responding to this moment in our culture and technology; and this, with demonstrable goals that are clear, significant and relevant to an audience.   All proposals should consciously undertake the values, goals, and methods of the digital humanities.

Required Elements

Project 5 asks your team to build 3 components:  (a) a written proposal, in response to an RFP below; (b) a slideshow presentation that overviews and advocates for your proposal; and (c) a web page that delivers both to an audience.

Project RFP (Request for Proposals)

The Digital Humanities Program at WCU invites you to submit a proposal for new projects. Proposals must impact human culture directly or indirectly and use digital technology prominently in the project. Proposals must be submitted no later than 12/15/2021 in a shared folder on google drive. Only complete proposals will be accepted. Proposals must include 3 submissions: (1) The proposal, a written document that proposes the project (detailed below); (2) A slideshow, overviewing and advocating for the strengths of the proposal; (3) a website that shares both of the above documents.

Project Requirements

Your project must adopt one or more of the goals of Digital Humanities; it must propose to conform to one or more of the values of Digital Humanities; and it must propose to use one or more of the tools or methods from Digital Humanities.  The project you propose should have clear interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary strengths, and you should identify at least two disciplines that coordinate in your proposed project.

Your project will outline a research question or need, assess the significance of the project to its intended audience(s), and describe methodologies, tools, and peer projects that might be useful to consider for this research project. Your project proposal will be aware of previous and current similar work, attentive to the limitations of the methodologies proposed, and sensitive to the interpretive needs of the disciplines invoked.

Required Sections: Written Proposals

All proposals must be at least 500 words and no more than 1100 words and include

  1. Overview & Context, where you overview your project, describe a Research Question, and assess the significance of the proposed project (what and why),(250 words max)
