This tutorial will show you how to share slides and docs on a WordPress site.
Part 1: Embedding Slides on WordPress
This tutorial will help you embed slides on a page in WordPress. It requires a plugin, EmbedPress, that is already present on our site. It requires you to have a slideshow you’re ready to share– it doesn’t have to be finished (changes will be reflected live) but the slideshow must exist and have a name.
- You need to have 2 tabs open: one with your slides and another one you open below
- Use this link to login to our site
- Login using your credentials as discussed in class/emailed to you (email me if you need help here)
- After logging in, click “visit site” under the home icon at top for intro.digitalwcu.org
- Head to your team’s page on the drop down menu under Student Work >> Project 1
- Click “edit” or “Edit Page” to begin
- Click on the big + sign at top left to open the block editor
- Scroll down on the blocks to the section for EmbedPress (it’s at the bottom)
- Click on Google Slides to add the object to the page. It should look like this.
- Go to the tab with your google slideshow
- In the menu, select File→ Publish to the Web.
- In the dialogue box that opens, select “Publish”
- Sometimes a box opens to make sure. It’s ok
- A new box opens with the url for embedding your slideshow. Copy the url
- Head back to your page on our website from step 9
- Drop this URL into the embed dialogue and click Embed
- Enjoy.
Part 2: Your Report
Your report should be drafted as a google doc. (File> Download>PDF)
You can link to the pdf (and show it when someone clicks the link) or embed it.
To Embed the Report:
Go through the previous steps for adding the slides to Step 8.
9. Select Google Docs from the EmbedPress Blocks Menu.
10. Now head to your report and select File>Publish to Web>and press Publish
11. It might ask you if its ok. It is.
12. A new dialogue box opens with the URL for the report. Copy this URL
13. Back at your webpage for our site, paste this url into the GoogleDocsURL and click embed.
14. Enjoy yourself.
To Link to the Report.
- Add a block with the text you want to show. For example: View our report.
- On the report, once it is absolutely finished, select File>Download>PDF and download the pdf to your computer.
- In google drive, drop the downloaded PDF back into the shared folder next to your slides
- Right click on your pdf and select Get Link.
- In dialogue box, change to anyone with the link.
- Copy the URL from this pdf.
- Back on the webpage on our site, select the text you want to function as the link.
- A menu pops up, including the link symbol
- Paste the url into there and hit enter
- Enjoy.
