Contributions to DHM Wiki 15% + 5%= 20%

Drawing on best practices of crowdsourcing and collaborative writing, you will contribute to the course Wiki, at http://intro.digitalwcu.org/wiki. Working together, students in the course will create a credible and usable wikipedia for Digital Humanities information.  Your individual contributions will be graded for quantity (15%) and quality (5%).

Building the Information Space

At the course beginning, we’ve created a Main Page, an article on “Digital Humanities.”  We’ve also linked to three other pages from that article: “Digital Humanities Tools,” “Digital Humanities Projects,” and “Digital Humanities Articles.” We think of these as some of the main categories of the course, but of course, like all of the course wiki, these are articles that have to be developed. One of the pages, DH Tools, connects to a more specific page, “Crowdsource,” illustrating the nested nature of content creation in wikis. All of the content you add needs to link from and to these pages. We think just about everything one might say about Digital Humanities can be said within this space, but do reach out for help if you’re having a tough time.

Rules for Articles on the Wiki

Every article (page) on the wiki needs to conform to the following rules; articles that don’t meet these guidelines should be identified, corrected, or removed.

  1. Every article has to be linked from another page on our wiki and link to another page on our wiki.
  2. Every article needs to have sources: references to external verifiable material, ideally linked.
  3. Every article needs to have at least two parts (sections).

Building the Wiki

You are asked each week to make at least 6 contributions to the wiki.  Your actions should fall into these categories:

  1. Creating new pages and developing the content of those pages;
  2. Contributing to existing pages and adding new content within those pages;
  3. Editing others’ work, through deletion and addition, references/sources, etc, to increase the quality of the wiki.

Each week you must perform one of each type of these contributions and make 6 total contributions to the wiki.

Among these three activities, you must make at least 6 contributions each week in order to receive full credit for that week’s writing (15% of final grade).

Content on the site will reflect your research and discovery, the synthesis between your disciplines, the this of collaboration, and current events in the field.

DH Wiki Self-Assessment

At the end of each unit, you will identify three wiki pages that reflect your best contributions of the unit. This qualitative assessment will total 5% of your final average. This written self-assessment must:

  • hyperlink to each of the three pages you’d like us to look at
  • optionally, as you choose, provide up to 3-5 sentences about your contributions, explaining how you improved this resource.
  • upload your document to our shared Google Drive
