Project 2: Analysis of Tool

Square

This project presents an overview of a tool/method valuable in DH. Designed to be undertaken by a group. Requirements include analysis and description of tool and its use in DH. Delivered as a slideshow presentation and a page on our site. Individual work possible but discouraged. Due week 7, presented in class. Can replace project 1 if higher.

You should consider working as a collaborative team on this project.  Each project requires the following types of work:

  1. identifying and selecting a tool of significance to do the work of analysis, interpretation, preservation, or publication in the humanities.
  2. researching your selected tool so that you can explain how its used and why it is significant
  3. identifying digital projects that either (a) use your selected tool, (b) could have used your selected tool, but chose an alternative, or (c) should have used your selected tool, but didn’t use it or an alternative and the project is diminished.
  4. researching recent scholarship in order to gain the perspective of other scholars.
  5. building a slideshow in our google drive folder that uses information from your research and presents that information in an effective way that communicates the team’s perspective
  6. writing a 1 page overview (single-spaced) that communicates the team’s research and presents it effectively
  7. composing a page on WordPress that shares the team’s presentation on our class website

By submission deadline, your team will have produced three artifacts that communicate the team’s research on your selected discipline: (a) a slideshow, shared in our google drive folder; (b) a 1-page max written document that communicates the team’s analysis in a concise, coherent report, also shared on our folder; (c) a live webpage on our class site that shares the slides and the information from the report.

Project Building

I’d like you to work in collaboration on this project, offering advice and assistance with technology, writing, and review of the project.  You’re required to meet with me at least three times over this project building period, but I’m available to work with you more frequently if you find it helpful.

The peer review assignment asks you to give feedback to another team on their project slides. You may also give feedback on the report and webpage. Peer review occurs on D2L in the Discussions.

Rules:

  • Each team is assigned another team to review, as identified in the topics.
  • Each member must make at least one post to receive credit for this assignment. Members without posts will not receive credit.
  • As a whole, each team must give feedback on each of the 6 required components of the slides: (1) Context, (2) Discipline, (3) Project, (4) Tools & Methods, (5) Scholarship, (6) Evaluation.
  • Each individual feedback must include at least one positive thing about the project and one critical thing that you’d like the project to address.

This peer review counts as 1/9 of your process pts (20%) for Project 1.

Project Technologies

Your team will use google drive to compose the slides and report, and receive WordPress credentials to manage the public facing page sharing the project. I recommend the team select a new member to build the web page, to ensure roundedness for skill development. Late work will lose 5 points per calendar day past the deadline.
